Description

Name: Fern Woods
Age/Birthday: Seventeen. Born March 8th.
Height/Weight: 5'3 116 lbs.
Nationality: Mix of French and Swedish.
Species: 77% Human, 16% Virginia Tiger Moth, 7% Chameleon

Personality
Cold is the perfect word to describe Fern. It isn't intentional, but her past as driven her to a state in which she is very untrusting and unwilling to let others come close to her. She finds it difficult to make friends because of this and often times people find her boring or rude. This is also due to the 5 years she spent in isolation. Her social skills has deteriorated, making her a bit awkward when engaging in conversations.

Powers

Moth: Due to her moth DNA, she had acquired a healthy set of semi-transparent (and super fluffy) wings. She is capable of flying, having taught herself over the last 4-5 years, but lessons would benefit her greatly. She could only fly to a certain high and only for a limited amount of time. This is due to her inability to manage her energy costs of flight. In other words, she tires out very quickly. Her moth DNA has also given her a set of highly sensitive antennae that are, for the most part, useless. They aid her when moving through dark areas. This DNA has also given her a ridiculous love for bright and shiny things. Fern's attitude will completely change from "I hate you" to "OH, SHINY OwO." She will literally put herself in fatal danger just to get to bright objects.

Chameleon: Her Chameleon DNA gives her the simple ability to match the background, her skin changing color to camouflage her. However, this ability is only useful when she is completely naked, due to the fact that her clothes won't change with her. Not only that, but the DNA as made her an ectotherm. In other words, her body temperature matches her environment and her internal metabolic processes do little to create heat. She is always craving the sunlight or a fire, and does not do well in cold temperature. Spending an excessive amount of time in a cold area could potentially be fatal.

Background
Her father was a french immigrant living in Sweden. He found a Swedish woman and the two of them lived a very modest life, having just enough wealth to get by on a day to day basis. Fern came to them on an early spring day. The young girl had been a blessing and a curse. Her parents loved her greatly, but her birth had put much strain of the family financially, and therefore emotionally. Still they took care of her until she was 7, providing the best care they could for their daughter, though it was evident they couldn't afford much. Fern's life spiraled downwards when her younger sister, Émilie was born. The new child tore the parents apart, and unable to deal with it any longer, their mother left. Having lost the small, but essential income Fern's mother brought to the family, her father had no choice but to give his children up to the orphanage. It was a poor establishment, but it would be able to provide a significantly better life for the two young girls. It is rumored that he often visited and watched them from a far, but after a couple months, he stopped coming.

Life in the orphanage was not particularly pleasant, but is was not uncomfortable either. Fern was eight years, and her sister was only a single year old. Being one of the older children, Fern was often swamped with chores, only to come back and care for her younger sister. However, the orphanage had taught her several essential things, including cooking, sewing and most importantly, the English language. She had taken a liking for sewing, the piece she was most proud of being a pink dress for her little sister. When it was finished, she had taken a scrap of fabric from the dress and used it as a scarf, constantly reminding her and her sister than they were forever connected. They spent 3 years in the orphanage.

When Fern was eleven, the orphanage had taken in more children than it could sustain. It seemed a blessing when several well-dressed, obviously wealthy strangers visited the orphanage, offering to take some of the children off their hands. They spoke of a school that was wealthy enough to handle a good amount of the children as well as give them a proper education that would provide them with the skills to survive in the harsh world on their own. Fern couldn't resist. The orphanage had to cut back on several things due to the amount of children, and she had her now 4 year old sister to think about. The children were only allowed to go to the school if they willingly chose to do so, and Fern was first in line, holding her sister's hand and eager to finally have a proper life.

She was met, cruelly, with the opposite. Before she could even realize it, she was being tested on. Experimented with. The majority of the time she spent in the 'school' had been erased from her memories, her brain's reaction to the trauma. For 2 years, Fern and her sister suffered through a life of endless experiments, countless needles, and plenty of tears.

At 13, Fern finally gained the courage, and more importantly, the strength, to attempt to escape. Or at least get her sister out. Ridden with guilt for even bringing her sister, WILLINGLY, into this school, she was desperate to get Émilie out and perhaps back to the orphanage, or anywhere safe. Émilie's safety potentially meant she would be separated from Fern, but that was something Fern had accepted. All that mattered to her was the safety and well-being of her baby sister. After spending several months practicing with her new skills, Fern stripped down to her bare skin and used her Chameleon-based gifts to find her way to her younger sister without alarming the guards. Several hours of sneaking later, she found her sister just as mutated as she was. Emilie had a pair of sharp fangs that no doubt cut at her bottom lip, as well as a pair of leathery wings. A vampire bat. Fern had found her in a sort of waiting room, prepped to start her morning experiments. They were put on hold when Fern's room was found empty. Grabbing an orange sheet for covering, Fern wasted no time, taking her sister and leaving the labs.

Their escape was sudden and poorly planned. Not that there was a way to plan it better. The labs were highly guarded against escapees and there wasn't much that could be done that would have made it any easier for them. Fern thought since they both had wings they had a bit of an advantage. But she hadn't taken into account that her sister was only 7 years old, and hadn't gotten used to her wings. Their safest bet was to hide in the woods surrounding the establishment. They lived without trouble for 6 days.

On the seventh day after their escape, Fern and her sister were ambushed by a group of heavily-armed guards. They demanded the girls come back with them to the 'school' or deadly force would be used. Refusing to let her sister be put through anymore tests, Fern resisted and took off, desperately holding her sister's hand. Several shots rang out, and suddenly, her hand felt heavy. She looked back to see her sister's feet dragging, her head dropped and blood running down her back. Emilie was dead. Shock set in and Fern froze for a moment, but the yells and shots of the men made her panic and sent her fleeing into the woods, leaving behind her sister's body.

For 5 years, Fern had lived alone in the woods, living off wild animals and the little skills she picked up from the orphanage. When she came across campers, she would wait till the night and steal small supplies, fresh water, clothes and useful items before disappearing back into the woods. She lived, drowning in solitude and guilt, until she stumbled across two other mutants. Untrusting, she stalked them for several days to determine their safety, and would have for several more if it weren't for her moth genes. Drawn to the bio-luminescence of Charleston Fernandez's lure, she stupidly and uncontrollably batted at the bright light, waking him and his small companion. It was then the three officially met and became an inseparable trio, though Fern still keeps her distance.

Viewing much of your artistic work I have to say I am impressed.Though I must inquire: have you any training in formal shading and perspective?
